Basics of Amarillo Water

Drinking water, also commonly known as potable water, can be sourced from a river, lake, or in many cases from an aquifer or a water well.

  • The City of Amarillo’s water supply comes from two sources:
    • A system of city wells drawing water from the Ogallala Aquifer
    • Canadian River Municipal Water Authority (CRMWA) provides well- water and water from Lake Meredith.
  • There are approximately 75,000 water meters in Amarillo for homes and various businesses.

The city tracks daily usage along with setting daily usage goals.

The Utility Billing Department handles setting up new service, transferring services, ending services, and all billing questions.

Amarillo Water Utilities employs rigorous water quality testing and monitoring programs. Consumer Confidence Reports and Water Chemical Analysis Reports are accessible to residents, providing transparency about the quality of the drinking water.

Please contact the Water Distribution main line at 806-378-6824 as soon as possible so they can assist you and provide guidance on how to resolve the issue. 

Brown water can be caused by a few different factors, such as sediment or rust in the pipes. Please contact Water Utilities at 806-378-6824 so we can assist you further. 

Amarillo Water Utilities offers a range of essential services, including water production, water distribution, wastewater collection, water reclamation, and environmental laboratory services. The department is structured to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of high-quality water, sewer, and environmental services.

 

Amarillo Water Utilities manages multiple key facilities essential to the city’s water services, including the City of Amarillo Water Plant for water production, the Service Center for water distribution and wastewater collection, the Hollywood and River Road Wastewater Treatment Plants, and the Amarillo Environmental Lab. The administration department, led by the Director of Utilities, oversees these operations.

Amarillo Water Utilities actively promotes water conservation and environmental stewardship. Residents can find information about conservation programs, including “Every Drop Counts,” to learn about ways to contribute to sustainability efforts.
Amarillo Water Utilities tracks daily water usage and sets goals to promote water conservation. Residents can request daily water usage data to stay informed and contribute to the community’s conservation efforts.
