As an international resettlement community, Amarillo welcomes refugees and helps them transition to the American healthcare system. Our Public Health Refugee Program provides essential services, including immunizations and documentation assistance.

Public Health Refugee Program FAQs

The Amarillo Refugee Health Services program is designed to introduce refugees to the American healthcare system. Through Public Health, we provide essential services to support their health and well-being as they transition to life in the U.S.

Immunizations and I-693 documentation assistance are available by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, ensuring that refugees receive the necessary health services in a timely manner.

To schedule a Public Health Refugee program appointment for health screenings or immunization services, call 806-378-6300. The Public Health team is ready to assist you.

We provide initial health screenings, immunizations, and assistance with I-693 documentation, all designed to help refugees navigate their new healthcare environment effectively.

You remain eligible for our Refugee Health Services for up to one year after arriving in the U.S. This timeframe allows us to provide crucial health support during your initial settlement period.

For immunization appointments, bring a photo ID, your I-94 card, and your shot record if you have one. These documents help us ensure you receive the appropriate vaccinations.

Free vaccines are available to refugees who have been in the U.S. for less than 12 months, as part of our commitment to promoting public health within the refugee community.

Yes, Public Health assists refugees in completing the I-693 Medical Examination and Vaccination form if they have lived in the U.S. for at least one year. Please bring a photo ID, I-94 card, employment authorization card, immunization record, and proof of address.

No, you do not need to have completed all your vaccines; however, you must be current on your vaccinations or in the process of getting them.

It can take up to two weeks to receive your I-693 envelope after processing, ensuring that your vaccination records are properly documented.

No, Amarillo Public Health does not conduct immigration medical exams. Call 806-378-6300 for a list of approved providers who can assist you.
