About transformation Park

Transformation Park is a collaborative public-private effort in Amarillo, Texas, focused on supporting members of the unhoused community. The site includes 45 small houses with the capacity to house up to 70 individuals and is planning to add a day center to provide essential services and resources.

While the City of Amarillo is a partner in this initiative, it does not manage or oversee daily operations. The City owns the property and leases it to Transformation Park for a nominal fee. The facility is fully operated by Transformation Park, a nonprofit organization that oversees shelter operations, programming, and resident support.

The goal of Transformation Park is to provide a safe, inclusive, and low-barrier environment where individuals can begin the transition out of homelessness. The organization values and serves all people, regardless of background or beliefs, and is committed to empowering residents through compassion, collaboration, and innovation.

Transformation Park will serve as a multi-use center that includes a day center, an outdoor safe space night shelter, and community cabins for those transitioning to permanent housing. All shelter areas will offer access to restrooms, showers, pet kennels, laundry services, meals, and classrooms for educational programming.

City of Amarillo’s Contributions to Transformation Park

The City of Amarillo plays a supportive role in this initiative by providing assistance and serving as a collaborative resource. With a longstanding commitment to supporting the unhoused community, our Community Development Department sees this as a meaningful opportunity to contribute, while respecting and preserving Transformation Park’s identity as an independent, nonprofit-led project.

Community Development Resources

The Community Development Department and Transformation Park will serve as partners, working together to support individuals experiencing homelessness. As a key connection point, the Coming Home Outreach Team will help guide individuals to Transformation Park, where they can access shelter and basic necessities. When Transformation Park residents are ready to move toward permanent housing, Transformation Park will refer them to the Community Development Department to explore available housing options and supportive services. This partnership ensures a seamless continuum of care, from immediate needs to long-term stability.

While the City contributes to this initiative, we want to emphasize that daily operations, security, and resident services are fully managed by the Transformation Park nonprofit.

Transformation Park Nonprofit’s Role

As the leading organization of this initiative, the Transformation Park nonprofit is responsible for:

Facility Operations and Management

Daily Management: The Transformation Park nonprofit organization provides the overall management of the facility, including staging, programming, and daily property upkeep.

Service Provision

Resident Support: They provide essential services such as case management, job training, healthcare access, and housing support to empower residents toward self-sufficiency.

Security Measures

Safety Protocols: The organization is implementing and overseeing all aspects of its advanced security measures to ensure a secure environment for all. This includes onsite security staff, an entrance metal detector and baggage scanner, and a robust security camera system throughout the facility.

The “Hub” Day Center

The Day Center will serve as a central resource hub for individuals experiencing homelessness, including those staying at the drop-in shelter and Cabin Community. It will be open to anyone seeking assistance, with the Transformation Park team providing connections to essential services and support.

Currently, this temporary facility — known as “The Hub” — is owned and operated by Transformation Park. It includes temporary shelter space, restrooms, and office space for staff. It will serve in this role until the new Joe and Laura Street Day Center is constructed, which is expected to be completed in approximately 24 months. At that time, the City’s Community Development Department will relocate to the new building to support long-term housing transitions for residents.

Services and Operations

Case Management and Resource Assistance: Helping individuals secure important documents such as identification and Social Security cards.

Healthcare Access and Job Training: In collaboration with local partners, The Hub connects individuals with medical services, mental health support, and employment resources.

The City of Amarillo is proud to be part of this collaborative effort by embedding its Community Development Department into the Day Center operation, helping ensure a smoother path from shelter to permanent housing for residents of Transformation Park.
