Learn and Prepare

The Amarillo Fire Department provides community education programs to increase awareness and readiness for a variety of emergency situations. These classes are designed to help participants better understand fire safety, emergency response practices, and ways to support preparedness in the community.

Classes are taught by certified instructors such as firefighters, paramedics, and/or medical professionals.

CPR — Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED

For: General public — teachers, coaches, parents, employees, and others interested in learning CPR concepts.

  • Adult, child, and infant CPR techniques
  • Use and purpose of an AED (automated external defibrillator)
  • Basic first aid topics (choking, allergic reactions, etc.)
  • Certification: Two-year American Heart Association certificate
  • Cost: $60 per person

Basic Life Support — BLS CPR

For: Healthcare/medical professionals and students entering medical or clinical fields.

  • Adult, child, and infant CPR
  • BVM/AMBU bag ventilation
  • Note: Does not include First Aid content
  • Certification: Two-year certificate
  • Cost: $45 per person

Yes! Most of our classes are open to residents of our community. Some may require pre-registration due to limited space.

Many of our public education classes are offered free of charge as a service to the community. Some certification-based courses (like CPR) may have a small fee to cover materials or certification cards.

Absolutely! AFD regularly provides onsite education for schools, senior centers, workplaces, and community organizations. Contact us to schedule a group session tailored to your needs.
