Motorists and citizens across Amarillo have likely noticed at least one of the recent construction projects by the City of Amarillo (COA) Parks and Recreation Department (PARD).

Five PARD construction projects are ongoing, with three recently completed and more in the works.

“PARD is busy as far as improvement projects and residents have more than likely encountered construction signs across the city at one of our many parks or facilities,” said PARD Director Michael Kashuba. “Amarillo’s parks and park facilities greatly impact our quality of life, and these projects are examples of the priority the city puts on maintaining and improving city amenities for the entire community.”

PARD improvement projects recently completed (all costs are approximate):

  • Pleasant Valley Park Playground Replacement. ($100,000).
  • Warford Activity Center Pool Mural.
  • Amarillo National Tennis Center Padel Courts. (Ribbon-cutting event to be announced. $150,000 with a 50/50 partnership from the Alex O’Brien Tennis Foundation).

PARD improvement projects in progress:

  • Thompson Memorial Park Inclusive Playground. ($2 million from a Community Development Block Grant.)
  • Park Master Plan for a new park in the northeast quadrant of Amarillo. ($100,000).
  • John Stiff Memorial Park North Parking Lot. ($875,000).
  • John Stiff Memorial Park South Parking Lot. ($775,000).
  • Rick Klein Sports Complex: Parking lot installation.($1.8 million).

Future PARD improvement projects:

  • John Stiff Memorial Park Lighting. ($2.25 million).
  • Thompson Memorial Park Lighting. ($4 million).
  • Memorial Park Lighting. ($1 million).
