AMARILLO – Residents, groups and organizations from around Amarillo with a unified goal came together last Friday (January 31) in a unique setting to help the unsheltered.
The Continuum of Care (CoC) and the City of Amarillo (COA) Community Development Department hosted a Homeless Resource Fair at the Amarillo Civic Center, offering essential services and support to unsheltered residents in the community.
Local service providers connected individuals with vital resources, including housing assistance, healthcare services and access to basic necessities.
The annual event coincided with the 2025 Winter Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, a nationwide initiative that helps assess the scope of homelessness and determine the most effective methods to address homelessness.
“This multifaceted event is a testament to what can be accomplished when a community comes together to care for its most vulnerable,” said Mayor Cole Stanley. “It is about more than providing a meal or supplies. It is about offering hope, dignity and providing pathways to long-term support.”
The event was made even more impactful with a warm meal provided and served by Leal’s, with assistance from City Church staff and volunteers, who helped with meal service and cleanup. Local musician Andy Chase provided live music during the meal, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. Stanley also assisted in coordinating this effort alongside community partners.
Recognizing that pets can be a barrier to accessing services, the Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare (AAMW) team provided temporary pet crating, ensuring that individuals could attend the event in comfort with their pets.
The City of Amarillo extends its gratitude to the organizations, volunteers and community members who made this event possible.
