September is Library Card Sign-up Month! Amarillo Public Library and Friends of APL invite library users to share the library love with friends and family.
Bring a friend to the library to sign up for a new card, and you’ll both be entered into a prize drawing!
Of course, the real prize that comes with every library card is access to all of APL’s amazing services. Everyone knows that a library card lets you check out books and movies, but did you know about all these other great opportunities open to APL cardholders?
- APL MakerSpace – a space where cardholders can complete projects or make repairs. The Makerspace has sewing machines and a long-arm quilter, tools and supplies for jewelry making and paper crafts, 3-D printers, Cricut machines, tools for fine art and leather worker, and SO MUCH MORE!
- Computer access – Whether it’s for fun, or business, or just connection, public access computers are available at all five APL locations, allowing cardholders to access the internet and online resources.
- On the go reading – an APL library card gives patrons access to downloadable ebooks and audiobooks, online newspapers and magazines, comics and graphic novels, and online books for kids.
- Free streaming – APL cardholders have access to the Kanopy app, which can be used on a mobile device or smart TV to access thousands of movies, TV series, documentaries, and kids programs.
- Education on your schedule – Through free resources like Transparent Language, Chilton Library, Udemy, Learning Express Library, and more, APL cardholders are able to access online language lessons, educational courses, skills building exercises, and practice tests for a variety of academic and professional exams.
- Help for jobseekers – APL cardholders can get help crafting a professional resumé and completing online job applications.
These are just a few highlights of all the doors that open with a library card from the Amarillo Public Library!
A library card is free to everyone who lives inside the Amarillo city limits, and it takes just a few minutes to sign up! Just bring your photo ID and proof of residency (utility bill, rental agreement, postmarked mail that shows name and address) issued in the last 60 days to any APL location to get started. Non-resident cards for individuals or households are available for a fee.
