The final Friends of the Amarillo Public Library book sale of 2025 is right around the corner, and it’s a bargain sale! At this Bargain Brown Bag sale, shoppers make their selections from a huge array of books and other media and pay just $5 per bag. Shoppers who bring their own reusable shopping bags (not paper bags) save money by paying just $4.50 per bag. The sale takes place December 5 through 7 in the basement of the Downtown Amarillo Public Library.

The Friends group reserves the right to charge extra for extra-large bags, and boxes, bins, and wagons are not permitted in the book sale area on Friday evening.

The sale begins with a “Friends Only” night on Friday, December 5 from 6:30 to 9 PM. On Saturday, the sale is open to the public from 9 AM to 6 PM; and on Sunday, shoppers can pick up bargains at just $3 per bag.

In addition to stocking up on books and media, shopping the Friends Sale is an opportunity to support the Amarillo Public Library by helping the Friends provide valuable funds for library projects.

Friends of the Amarillo Public Library is an independent nonprofit organization that supports the library by funding projects not financed with taxpayer dollars. These projects include the Summer Reading Club, author visits, craft supplies, special equipment, and more. In 2025, support from the Friends allowed APL to adopt a new mascot, Fable, the Library Dragon!

2026 Friends memberships are available for purchase at all APL locations and people can even buy a membership at the door when the sale begins at 6:30. Memberships are $10 for individuals or $25 for families.

Members of Amarillo College’s Presidential Scholars Program will be at the sale assisting shoppers with bag storage and transport and will use tips received to support the Chris Macon Memorial Scholarship and other educational projects.
