Utilizing past downtown parking studies and recommendations, the City Council adopted a new Downtown Parking Management plan in October 2018 to include paid parking in certain areas of downtown circling the new city-owned public paid parking garage located at 600 S. Buchanan. In addition to the paid on-street and parking garage spaces within the boundary, citizens and visitors have other parking options with city-owned surface lots nearby which will remain free (with the exception of Hodgetown events that will utilize a portion for paid parking during their events).
Parking Time Limits and Pricing
Parking Garage: The parking garage located at 600 S. Buchanan is open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The current pricing is $2 per hour, with a max of $7 per hour with the exception of special pricing for event days. The parking garage is unmanned and only payable via credit card.
On-Street: Each zone (indicated on the signage) will allow for parking in one-hour increments, up to three hours total, before a vehicle must relocate to a new zone. The charge for parking is $.75 cents per hour plus a $.25 cent transaction charge. Paid parking is only required Monday-Friday between 8AM and 5PM for these zones
The On-Street paid parking area includes:
- S. Johnson from SE 3rd Ave to SE 10th Ave;
- West on SE 10th from Johnson to Fillmore;
- North on S. Fillmore to SE 9th Ave., then west on SE 9th to S. Taylor;
- North on S. Taylor to SE. 4th Ave., then East on SE 4th to S. Fillmore;
- North on S. Fillmore to SE 3rd Ave, then east on SE 3rd to S Johnson

Paying for On-Street Parking
The City has contracted with ParkMobile to provide a digital payment and meter system. There are no physical meters or kiosks at this time.

How do I sign up and pay for parking? You can use ParkMobile one of three ways:

- Via phone – Call 877-727-5953 and follow the voice prompts
Which Forms of Payment can be used to pay for Parking?
ParkMobile accepts Apple Pay, Masterpass, Chase Pay, Visa Checkout, PayPal, or by directly linking a specific credit card to the system. Your credit card number is encrypted when you sign up and is never entered, displayed, or spoken during transactions. The City of Amarillo does not store or retain your credit card number.
How does enforcement work?
ParkMobile users do not need a receipt to display on their vehicle. Amarillo Police Department Parking Enforcement can see payment status automatically in real time on their enforcement equipment. Your ParkMobile parking session is tied to your vehicle's license plate. If you have questions or concerns parking enforcement you may contact the Amarillo Police Department.
Citations issued for parking in Amarillo are civil with the exception of handicapped space violations and parking in a fire lane. If you are issued a parking citation, you must pay or appear to request a civil administrative hearing within twelve days of receiving the citation. If you are issued a criminal parking violation you should click here to resolve your violation.
Paying a Civil Parking Citation:
To pay online you may click here. You may also pay in person at the City of Amarillo Municipal Court, 201 Southeast 4th Avenue, Amarillo, Texas 79101 Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Thursdays from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.
The civil penalty if paid within 12 days is $25, after 12 days is $50, and after 30 days is $100.
Requesting a Hearing
To contest a civil parking citation, you must appear in person or make a request in writing within twelve days of receiving the citation. If you submit a request and are appointed a time for an administrative hearing you will need to appear as scheduled or at an administrative hearing docket before the date and time given.
Administrative hearings are held every Wednesday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. No appointment is necessary.
A vehicle may be impounded if it has been the subject of six or more civil nuisance violations within the prior 12 months or has a sum of $300 or more unpaid, past due civil penalties and is again found parked on a public right of way.
The vehicle does not have to be in violation at the time that it is seized. To get an impounded vehicle released, you must come to the Court and pay all fees due and pay the towing company the costs associated with the tow.
