Transit Fare Increases Begin Oct. 21

Post Date:10/17/2019 11:49 AM

AMARILLO, TX – Increases in fares for Amarillo City Transit – the first fare increase since 1994 – will begin Monday (Oct. 21). The fare increases were approved by Amarillo City Council.

"This will be the first fare increase in more than 25 years,” said City of Amarillo Transit Director Marita Wellage-Reiley. “This is needed as the amount of money the city recovers from fares has significantly decreased compared to the cost of service since 1994.”

Wellage-Reiley noted that money from fares has dropped to four percent of the cost of service compared to 1994, when the number was 17 percent. Amarillo College students and faculty will ride free-of-charge with proper identification.

Amarillo City Transit (ACT) fares will be as follows:

 • Adult: $1 per one-way trip.

 • Adult Day Pass: $2 unlimited trips per day.

 • Reduced for Disabled/Senior/Students (K-12): 50 cents per one-way trip.

 • Reduced Fare Day Pass: $1 unlimited trips per day.

 • Monthly Pass: $30

Transfers will no longer be issued. Passengers will need to purchase a Day Pass for transfers. Day passes are good for an entire day. A reduced ID card must be presented to the operator to be entitled to a reduced-fare or day pass. Day Passes are available from the bus operator.

Day and Monthly Passes may be purchased at City Hall with cash, check, debit or credit card. Passes can be purchased with check or exact change at the ACT office, 801 S.E. 23rd Ave. on Route 33. Monthly Passes are available the last week of each month and the first two days of the month. A monthly pass consists of unlimited rides for the entire month. Through Oct. 25, ACT staff will be at the Transfer Center to answer questions and issue reduced-fare cards to seniors, students and individuals who can prove a disability.
