The City of Amarillo’s Planning Department manages a broad scope of programs and activities ranging from annexation for future development to shaping neighborhoods and communities to promoting redevelopment. Amarillo Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO): advances transportation projects that preserve and enhance the natural and built environments, as well as the economic and social assets of the urban, suburban and rural areas they pass through. In the Amarillo area, the Amarillo Metropolitan Planning Organization works to balance the needs of mobility and safety with other desirable outcomes, including the preservation of the built and natural environments which streets, roads, and highways pass through.
