The City of Amarillo is recruiting for Equipment Operators in the Solid Waste Collection Department to operate solid waste equipment on assigned routes. A valid Texas Class A or B CDL is required. Requires lifting materials of up to 75 pounds and could involve heavier lifting of over 100 pounds with assistance. Experience in the operation of light and heavy equipment or trucks is preferred.   • Police Officer
    • The City of Amarillo is taking applications for the position of Police Officer. Applications should be submitted to the Training and Personnel Division of the Police Department at 200 SE 3rd (4th Floor) till 5:00 pm, Friday, December 26, 2008.
      Must be a U.S. citizen of good character with no felony or Class A convictions; possess a valid Texas drivers license with a good driving record; you must have reached your 21st birthday, but not have reached your 45th birthday by June 4, 2009. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language at a high school graduate level; must have normal speech and hearing, and be able to follow written and verbal instructions; must be able to work under stressful conditions and occasionally work overtime.

  • Airport Facilities Supervisor, Rick Husband Int'l Airport
    • Directly supervises day-to-day Airport Janitorial and Maintenance activities through subordinate personnel and/or contract personnel. Receives direction and priorities from the Airport Manager and Assistant Airport Manager. Need good eyesight to read meters, plans, gauges, and markings on equipment. Climbs and works from ladders. Performs variety of physical activities such as standing, walking, turning, stooping, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling while inspecting, repairing, and servicing equipment.
      Minimum experience includes a high school education with four years of experience in HVAC, building maintenance, and janitorial services including three years of previous supervisory experience is required. Must exercise mental alertness at all times in inspecting such equipment as HVAC equipment. Must possess a valid drivers license and be able to obtain a commercial motor vehicle operator license.

  • Airport Police Officer, Rick Husband Int'l Airport
    • Provides law enforcement services to the Airport in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws, and specifically Federal Aviation Regulation Part 107. Enforces appropriate Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances, and performs other duties as specified by the Airport Manager. Will be required to supply all personal equipment necessary for performance of duties, including, but not limited to: black clip-on tie, black leather shoes, weapon, handcuffs, gun belt, holster, etc. Will be required to work shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be in good mental and physical condition with the ability to perform physical activities such as walking, standing for long periods of time, talking, and running. Must be able to maintain good public relations with Airport tenants and the public; be able to make decisions involving law enforcement matters on the Airport; must have stable financial history; and be able to write reports. Prefer applicants with a knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances, particularly Federal Aviation Regulation Part 107. Individuals selected must also pass an extensive background investigation, physical and psychological evaluation, and drug screen.

  • Sanitarian I, Environmental Health Dept
    • Conducts field investigations and surveys, assists in educational programs, and enforces environmental health laws. Work is preformed within established department guidelines and policies, but requires independent judgment and initiative. Must have the ability to prioritize work, schedule work, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Majority of complaint investigations are conducted outdoors. Majority of vector control work is done in the hours between 12:00 midnight and 7:00 a.m., June through September.
      A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester hours in basic and/or natural science or any combination thereof is required. One course, 3 semester hours of advanced college level mathematics may be substituted for 1 course, 3 semester hours of the required basic or natural sciences. Must pass the "Professional Sanitarian" examination administered by the Texas Department of State Health Services, and be eligible to license as a Registered Sanitarian with the State of Texas within 2 years of employment. Must submit an application for registration as a Sanitarian (including Certified college transcripts) to the Texas Department of State Health Services before the end of employee=s probationary period. Must possess a valid driver=s license. Licensed by State as a Non Commercial Pesticide Applicator in 6 months

  • Equipment Operator III (asphalt), Street Dept
    • Under direct supervision, operates asphalt laydown machine in performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the placing of hot-mix asphalt on City streets and facilities. May require light to medium (30-50 lbs.) lifting during minor repair or adjustment to equipment, but could involve heavier lifting (50-110 lbs.) when performing manual tasks. Must be able to control stress while working under emergency conditions and integrate well with others.
      Minimum eighth (8th) grade education with five (5) years experience in operating light and medium asphalt equipment and trucks and including two (2) years experience with laydown machine operations is required. Must possess a valid Class “A” CDL, with Tanker “N” endorsement. High school education desirable. Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement of this position.

    • Responsible for handling a number of transactions at the court's customer windows including accepting and processing fine and fee payments, dismissing certain cases under strict guidelines, granting continuances, scheduling docket/trial dates and handling customer inquiries. .   • Administrative Asst IV (court collections officer), Municipal Court
    • Under the direction of the Presiding Judge and the supervision of the Court Administrator, acts as Court Collection Officer. Will be responsible for implementing standards and procedures designed to increase compliance with court-ordered payments of court costs, fees and fines. Interviews defendants, investigates, evaluates and verifies applications for extension of time for payment of fine and court costs. Must be able to work under pressure stemming from heavy workload and a high volume of public contact. Must be able to handle complex activities with constant distractions and interruptions.
      Graduation from an accredited high school is required. Two (2) years experience in collections, conducting financial interviews, credit management or related experience is required.   • Lift Station Maintenance Mechanic, Wastewater Collection Dept
    • Performs tasks in the service and maintenance of pumps, motors and auxiliary equipment in sewer lift stations in wastewater collection system.
      Must have some knowledge of the danger of working in confined spaces and the types of gases commonly found in sewage systems, Must have a telephone for emergency call-outs, and be able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.
      Graduation from high school or GED plus experience in maintenance of pumps and motors and construction work is required. Previous experience in maintenance and construction of a sewer system and Class C certification are desirable. Must obtain a valid Texas Class A CDL ,with Tank (N) endorsement within 90 days of hire.

      Completion of the 8th grade plus one (1) year experience in the operation of light or medium construction equipment or trucks is required. Must obtain a Texas Class A CDL with X endorsement within 30 days of hire (City reimburses for the cost of endorsement). Will be required to work as a Laborer until license is obtained.

  • Security Operations Agent, Rick Husband Int'l Airport
    • Performs paging and public address services in airport terminal Monitors alarm and security systems. Performs background checks with previous employers and issues and records on computerized system all airport identification badges and executive parking passes. Responds to questions and inquiries from the public, airport tenants, airlines and governmental agencies. Required to regularly stand, walk, sit , talk, feel, hear, smell, reach, climb, stoop kneel and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. and work in inclement weather. Will require shift work on weekends, nights, and holidays.
      Graduation from high school or GED plus two (2) years experience dealing with the public is required. Must possess a valid Texas drivers license and possess ability to become certified in minimum TLETS program for Police requirements.     • Performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled manual functions in the construction and maintenance of streets and City properties. May oversee work of laborers. Requires considerable lifting up to 110 lbs. and frequent use of a jack hammer. Any combination of experience and training equivalent to completion of the eighth grade plus one year experience as a laborer in a similar work environment is required. Some experience operating light-duty equipment such as power broom, pneumatic roller, utility truck, tractor/backhoe, etc. and the ability to rake asphalt and work concrete is necessary. Must obtain a Texas Class A CDL with “N” (Tanker) endorsement within 30 days of hire. Will be hired as a Laborer until CDL is obtained.

      Graduation from high school or GED is required. Must type 30 words per minute. Requires ability to utilize independent judgment and maintain accuracy and speed, ability to spell, alphabetize, and use correct grammar. Should have some knowledge of techniques in general library practice. Must be able to work harmoniously and cooperatively with other employees. Should be mature, poised and articulate. PART-TIME POSITIONS

Public Health Department

Administrative Assistant 1 (Bioterrorism program).  Assists the Coordinator to organize smallpox clinic activities including pre-clinic planning and set up,  tracking and followup of vaccines, and entry of data.  Provides clerical support to the Bioterrorism team.  High  school graduate or GED  is required.  Previous experience working with computers is required.  Must have good typing skills, 30 wpm is required.  Must possess a valid Texas drivers license with good driving record and reliable means of transportation . $7.00-$7.50/hr.

 

LVN-hourly.  Functions as part of the health care team to deliver public health nursing services to community citizens.  a certificate from an accredited school of vocational nursing, with current licensure as a licensed vocational nurse in the state of Texas is required.   A minimum of one year of nursing experience is preferred.  Must possess a valid Texas drivers license and reliable transportation. $ DOQ

 

Traffic Engineering Department

*School Crossing Guards needed. Seeking reliable people to work 45 minutes in the morning and afternoon.  Pay is $20.07 per day plus uniform allowance.  Must have phone and reliable transportation.  Ideal for retired persons.

 

Facilities Department

*Airport Evening Custodians. Performs general custodial duties such as floor care, sweeping, dusting, mopping, restroom cleaning, glass cleaning and all other building care as assigned.  Must be able to speak English, read and understand simple written instructions.  Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and dependable transportation. Must be able to obtain airport security clearance. Multiple shifts available.  $7.00/hr

 

*Evening Custodian   Performs general custodial duties such as floor care, sweeping, dusting, mopping, restroom cleaning, glass cleaning and all other building care as assigned.  Must be able to read and understand simple written instructions.  Must be able to work evenings, 5:00 pm to 1:30 am and occasional weekends.  Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license.  Will work 5pm-1:30 am. $7.00/hr
 

Transit Department

Bus Drivers needed to operate a bus in accordance with department policies over designated routes in accordance with time schedules.  Picks up and discharges passengers.  Observes fares paid and keeps count of passenger totals.   Must possess a Texas Class A or B CDL.  Passenger endorsement and previous bus driving experience is preferred.   Excellent opportunity for regular employment with benefits. $8.57/hr

 

Laborers needed in various departments.  Requires a valid drivers license, lifting up to 100lbs. and working in all weather conditions.  Will work 40 hrs/week,  $7 - 8.05/hr., depending upon job assignment.                         

 

WIC Administration

*WIC Technician 1. Interviews clients and determines eligibility for program benefits.  Enters client information into computer; issues food instruments; schedules appointments; runs reports; files and answers telephone.  $8.05/hr

 

*Nutritionist 1.  Determines eligibility of applicants based on nutritional/medical risk assessment.  A Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics, Food Nutrition, Food Science, Food Technology, or Home Economics with a minimum of 12 semester hours in food and nutrition is required.  Registered Dietitian and bilingual is preferred.  Must possess a valid driver's license.  Must submit college transcripts with application.   $13.15/hr
