The City of Amarillo operates under a Civil
Service System for all full-time employees. Police and Fire Officers follow
State Civil Service requirements and laws. All other employees are subject
to Local Civil Service rules. The City of Amarillo employees over 2,000
individuals. Approximately 1781 full-time employees and over 350 part-time
employees.
The Human Resources Division functions as
the primary human resource support service to all departments of the City.
The Human Resources Division is divided into three departments: Human
Resources Department, Risk Management Department, and Benefits Department.
Major functional activities include Human
Resource services involving salary administration based upon pay for
performance, classification administration, employee benefits administration
and health insurance, merit promotion administration, risk management,
worker's compensation, safety and training, maintenance of all permanent
Human Resources records, employee relations, policies and procedures
development and implementation, and administrative staff to the Civil
Service Commission.
