Final Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps

On June 4, 2010, FEMA notified the City of Amarillo, through Letters of Final Determination for Potter County and Randall County, that all comments and appeals regarding the adoption of preliminary flood insurance studies and rate maps have been resolved. The revised Flood Insurance Studies and Flood Insurance Rate Maps provided to the City by FEMA on August 14, 2008 are now effective.

The City is required as a condition of the National Flood Insurance Program to adopt or show evidence of adoption of floodplain management regulations meeting the standards of Paragraph 60.3(d) of the NFIP regulations (44 CFR 59, etc.) prior to June 4, 2010. This ordinance was adopted by the City of Amarillo Commission on June 1, 2010.

Adopting the new flood plain studies and flood insurance rate maps provides the City, as well as property owners, with a more reliable picture of current flood risks, from the 1% chance storm. Property owners and local officials need to know their flood risk in order to make informed decisions about protecting their property investment.
