FEMA has sent preliminary flood insurance rate maps for
the City of Amarillo and its citizens to review and comment. The appeal
period ends July 24, 2007. Any appeal needs to be submitted through the City
Engineering Department prior to July 14, 2007 to allow adequate time for the
City to review and submit to FEMA.
Updating these maps will provide
communities, as well as property owners, with a more reliable picture of
current flood risks, from the 1% chance storm per year. Property owners need to know their
flood risk in order to make informed decisions about protecting their
property investment.
