  ANIMAL CONTROL

The Animal Control Shelter is located at 3501 S. Osage (1 block south of 34th & Osage). The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 10:00 am through 7:00 pm.

The Animal Control Department concentrates its efforts on reducing nuisances and dangers associated with stray animals, health-related hazards of animals, and insuring proper care of pets. These efforts focus on education programs, training of personnel, patrolling the City, and responding to concerned citizens. Animal Control Department personnel are subject to extensive professional training and college level courses on animals and animal care, investigations, management, public relations and criminal justice.

Animal Control provides the following services:
  • Impoundment of stray or unwanted animals
  • Public education and awareness programs
  • Enforcement of City ordinances and state laws pertaining to animals
  • Capture and relocation of wild animals
  • General patrol and enforcement
  • After hours emergency services
  • Quarantine facility
  • Removal and pickup of deceased animals
  • Provide aid to sick or injured animals
  • Assist with adoption of pets
  • Investigation of cruelty and welfare cases
  • Respond to citizen complaints
  • Investigation of animal bites/attacks
  • Water rescue

ANIMAL CONTROL LOST ANIMAL REPORT
When a stray or unwanted animal is impounded, a report is prepared with information about that animal such as the Census area where animal was taken into custody, Description, Breed, Color, Sex, Date of Impoundment, Address, Disposition and Case Number. SHELTER INFORMATION
If you have an emergency after 6 P.M. please contact the Police department at 378-3038. Emergency consists of, sick or injured animals, animal bites or attacks, any wild animals or animal that may present a risk of exposure to rabies, live or dead animals that may present a traffic hazard.

 

LEASH LAW
City Ordinances require that an animal be restrained and confined on the premises by a fence or rope, leash or chain by the owner.

Adoption of Animals
Animals are adopted from the Shelter through the Humane Society. For Information on adoptions, please call the Panhandle Human Society at 806-373-1716.
