Election Information
General Election Every Two Years
The Mayor and City Commissioners shall be elected at-large. Such terms shall be for two (2) years. Compensation is at a rate of ten dollars ($10.00) per week (Section 13, City Charter).
Candidate Qualifications:
To run for Mayor or City Commissioner you must: 1) be at least 18 years old; 2) be a resident of the city for one year preceding the date of election; 3) be a registered voter of the city; 4) not hold any other public office for which you receive compensation; 5) not be indebted to the city; 6) not have been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court; 7) not have been finally convicted of a felony from which you have not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.
Application for a place on the ballot:
Applications for a place on the ballot will be accepted by the City Secretary. Application packets are available in the City Secretary’s office during normal business hours. Each candidate must submit the Application for a Place on the Ballot, Charter Compliance Statement and Appointment of Campaign Treasurer.
Campaign Treasurer Appointment:
You must file the Appointment of Campaign Treasurer prior to accepting or receiving any campaign funds.
Voter Registration Information:
To be eligible to vote in an election you must have a current voter registration application on file no later than 30 days prior to Election Day.

Campaign Reports:
The Texas Ethics Commission enforces the Campaign Finance requirements for candidates and officeholders. In most cases, there are two (2) campaign reports due prior to the election, and semi-annual reports due after the election. The Texas Ethics Commission is the authority for any campaign finance requirements and they may be contacted at:
