AGN Media/City Logo Contest Winner Announced

Amarillo, TX – Following a citywide contest coordinated by AGN Media, the Amarillo City Council passed a resolution Tuesday designating the official City of Amarillo logo. The winning logo, submitted by Tyler Mitchell, was selected from 16 finalists presented to the City Council in December.

“With all of the great talent in Amarillo, I am honored to have my logo chosen to represent the next chapter in the City of Amarillo’s history,” says Tyler Mitchell, a graphic designer by trade.

In the resolution, it was noted that the logo will serve as a strong emblem for the City, reflecting the independence of a bold capital letter. Other features captured in the logo include:

  • A star honoring our state legacy
  • An arc reminiscent of an open horizon or the brim of a western hat
  • Colors that reflect both our land and golden sunsets, as well as our Spanish name-sake Amarillo
  • The City’s new slogan, “Open Spaces. Endless Opportunities.”

“We are proud to recognize Tyler Mitchell who designed this logo, as well as thank everyone who entered the AGN Media contest,” says Councilwoman Ellen Robertson Green. “Five of our community’s marketing and graphic art professionals volunteered their time to help choose the final logo. I’m thankful for their willingness to serve and for their expertise. Because of their work and the interest of so many others in our community, I know Amarillo has a logo that represents us well and that we can be proud of.”

November 2013 marked the beginning of a year-long celebration of the centennial of the City of Amarillo as a Home Rule Charter municipality. Adopting a modern logo for use in identifying the City of Amarillo is part of the Centennial Celebration. The logo will not replace the City’s seal, however, which will still be used for formal occasions or legal documents, when the City seal is required or more appropriately used.
