Rehabilitation of Hillside Road and S.W. 58th Ave. from S. Bell Street to S. Georgia Street, which began in May 2012, continues. The project, funded with Capital Improvement Funds, is being constructed in four phases. The two phases of Hillside Road between Bell Street Ave and Western Street have been completed and opened to traffic. The third phase, involving the rehabilitation of the eastbound lanes of 58th Ave from Western Street to Georgia Street, is currently under construction. This phase is expected to be completed the first week of March 2013. At that time traffic will be moved to the completed lanes and the westbound lanes will be rehabilitated. Rehabilitation of the roadway consists of removing the existing asphalt paving and base material to a depth of 15”, adding lime to stabilize the subgrade and then placing new base material and asphalt paving. The project is currently scheduled to be completed in June 2013.
Motorists who travel Hillside or S.W. 58th Ave. frequently will want to seek alternate routes throughout the duration of the project. Traffic is currently reduced to two lane/two way traffic on 58th between Western and Georgia, and motorists are advised to use extreme caution and expect delays. Work on the streets will normally take place between 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
