Amarillo, TX – Motorists who frequently travel Farmers Avenue between Western Street and Georgia Street will want to seek alternate routes through the duration of the rehabilitation project, which is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012. Road closures are expected to begin that day and last through October 2013. The roadway will be closed throughout the duration of this project and all traffic will be rerouted to SW 58th Avenue and LP 335.
The project, funded by the drainage utility, will install the first phase of a storm sewer outfall which will serve the immediate area. The storm sewer will eventually be extended under Interstate 27 to west of Bell Street to help alleviate flooding problems in that area, at a cost of $4,480,000. In conjunction with the drainage project, a roadway rehabilitation project will widen Farmers Avenue between Western Street and Georgia Street and add curb and gutter. The roadway rehabilitation will be funded through Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) mobility funding.
Work will normally take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution and expect delays. We would like to thank residents and motorists in advance for their patience and understanding. For more information or questions about the Farmers Avenue project, please call the City’s Engineering Department at (806) 378-9334.
